Balloon animals, gas struts and video games. What do these three seemingly very unrelated items have in common? Well, they are all three talents of our self-confessed “massive nerd” Simon Gibb. Simon, AKA Gibbo, is ovesco’s NSW Store Manager.
“I learnt how to make balloon animals when I was younger. I’ve forgotten most of them but can still do a few by memory,” says Gibbo of his hidden talent. When he’s not impressing others with this very particular skillset, out fishing or playing video games with his kids, he can be found at ovesco’s Newcastle store helping customers with their industrial and transport hardware and fastener needs.
“The best part of my job is helping people with their enquiries and watching their faces light up when we nail it.”
ovesco stocks more than 7000 speciality items, so there is no doubt that Gibbo’s product knowledge is huge, especially after almost seven years with the team. “My biggest achievement at work is definitely starting out in the warehouse and making my way up the ladder,” he says.
“As much as a pain they are, my favourite product would be gas struts. There is a good challenge in working the right one out,” Gibbo adds.
